Todmorden Judo Club was established in 1987 by Sean Nuttall, 4th Dan BJA. Sean has been a competitive player for the last 25 years and believes that as long as people want to learn, he will remain a Teacher. Sean originally took up judo because he was being bullied at school. His local Vicar provided him with his first Judo book and now, as a hobby, Sean has collected over 200 books, both rare and new. The club was established originally to provide people in the area with the opportunity to learn both a form of self-defence and a skilful martial art from qualified and experienced coaches and now boasts a membership of over 30. However we are always open for more players. Judo can be enjoyed at any age whether boy, girl, man or woman and this is not just an able bodied sport. Several of our players have represented both the Northwest and Yorkshire & Humberside Area Squads throughout the years. These have included international competitions in Holland, Belgium, Sweden and France which have all been subsidised by the club. 2006 saw Sean and his Nage-no Kata partner, George Launders (Shiro-no-Zen Judokwai) being selected to represent Great Britain at the European Kata Judo Championships in Turin. 2007 has proved yet another successful selection to the Great Britain Kata Team, where they will be competing in Wuppertal, Germany. Todmorden Judo Club strives to provide a friendly family atmosphere encouraging parents and children to become more involved. In fact, several of our qualified first aiders are parents of members. Outside activities are organised throughout the year, parties/disco, trips to other clubs, fund-raisers etc. Sean's Qualifications include: Senior Kata Examiner Area Examiner Nage-no Kata County Examiner Katame-no Kata County Examiner Ju no Kata Club Examiner Goshin Jutsu-no Kata National C Referee Area Examiner Gradings Sports Massage Technician First Aider Sub Area NW Rep 2 ( Greater Manchester ) 2001 - 2002
